No Days Off, Even When Your Baby Is Sick đ
Bleu Bells, let me tell youâthis week was a rollercoaster! My little Sariahâs had a nasty cough and cold, keeping both of us awake at all hours. I was a hot mess, running through worst-case scenarios in my head: RSV, whooping coughâyou name it, I worried about it. Meanwhile, life didnât stop. I had to show up at my full-time job, attempt to keep our nightly Storytime tradition going (because hello, commitment!), and still drop new ShayBleu Drip fashion shortsâbecause apparently, motherhood + work + content creation = no days off.
Living on Green Tea & Commitment
To be real, I looked like crap most days. My skin was freaking out, my hair was uncooperative, and I was running on pure adrenalineâand maybe a bit of denial. How do babies manage to stay so adorable even when theyâre coughing every other minute? Meanwhile, I was over here wishing I could crawl under a blanket and binge-watch reality TV with zero interruptions. But hey, no such luck for us moms, right?
My Village: The Real MVPs
Iâm so blessed to have a villageâTiffany and Tynette (Sariahâs godmom). With over 25 years of marriage under their belts, theyâre experts in juggling family, relationships, and sanity. Theyâve pushed me to open up when overwhelmed instead of bottling it all in. Because guess what? We moms canât do it alone and shouldnât have to.
Tips for Surviving the Chaos
I know many of you might be juggling a lot, too, so I wanted to share some tips that helped me survive this exhausting week:
1. Ask for Help
Stop trying to do everything yourself. If someone offers to babysit, cook, or run errands, let them! When Sariah was sick, having an understanding boss truly helped.
2. Communicate Your Feelings
Whether itâs to your partner, a trusted friend, or even a journalâget it out. We often feel burdened by stress simply because we havenât voiced whatâs happening.
3. Keep Doing What You Love, Even on Your Worst Days
I still filmed my fashion shorts and continued Storytime even though I felt like the walking dead. Sure, my hair was a mess, and I wasnât glammed up, but guess what? Authenticity resonates with people more than perfection. If youâre a content creator, show up anyway. Let your audience see the real you.
4. Take Mini Breaks
Canât get a whole day off? Fine. Steal 15 minutes for a quick shower, a cup of tea, or a mini meditation. These micro-breaks can recharge you enough to keep going.
5. Schedule & Prioritize
Yes, youâve got a million tasks, but prioritizing the must-dos can help you feel more in control. I learned to prioritize the top 3 tasksâtaking Sariah to the doctor, dealing with important work emails, and posting a quick content update.
6. Journal Your Journey
Even if itâs a few lines daily, journaling helps sort through emotions. Write down your fears, joys, wins, and losses. Itâs both therapeutic and a great way to track your growth.
7. Use the Right Tools
One thing thatâs been a lifesaver with Sariahâs stuffy nose is the NoseFrida (a.k.a. the âSnotsuckerâ). It completely clears her out and gives her (and me!) much-needed relief. Donât be afraid to try different remedies that might help you and your little one get through those rough nights.
No Days Off, But Still Growing
I wonât lieâthis week tested me in every way. Sleep deprivation, a sick baby, job stress, postpartum body struggles, you name it. But leaning on my friends and letting people see me at less than perfect reminded me Iâm humanâand thatâs okay. Motherhood doesnât pause, and neither do our dreams. But we can give ourselves room to breathe and ask for help when we need it.
